The Client

LastObject’s goal is to create sustainable alternatives to single-use products. Launched through Kickstarter in 2019, the Danish company currently has two primary products: the LastSwab, a reusable cotton swab; and the LastTissue, a handkerchief-tissue pack combination.

LastObject Floship Case Study Ecommerce Fulfillment

  • Find easy and reliable shipping solutions in Asia
  • Receive support on managing duty payments and other logistics of international shipping
  • Integrate their fulfillment services with their eCommerce operations platform, Skubana
  • Ship all products with plastic-free, eco-friendly packaging

After raising nearly $800,000 each for LastSwab and LastTissue, LastObject started shipping their products worldwide. But handling the taxes and other legal issues involved in international shipping was challenging. Packages would occasionally not reach the customer due to customs issues and would have to be resent, wasting time for all involved.

To minimize customs issues, LastObject hoped to find a shipping partner in Asia that could fulfill orders in Asia and Australia. Living up to LastObject’s goal of being environmentally friendly, they also wanted their packaging to be plastic-free, requiring support from their potential fulfillment partner.

LastObject was also hoping to find a shipping partner that could easily integrate with their eCommerce operations platform, Skubana. Prior to partnering with Skubana, LastObject’s view of their sales was fragmented. They had no way of seeing a cohesive image of sales across channels. With the goal of selling worldwide both B2B and B2C, LastObject needed a platform that could manage orders across dozens of platforms, including websites such as Shopify and eBay. Skubana was the best fit for their needs, easily integrating with many of LastObject’s existing processes and allowing them to get a full view of their sales channels. It was vital to LastObject that their fulfillment partner work well with Skubana.

Fortunately, Floship reached out after backing the Kickstarters to see how they could help.

Because Floship was a better fit for many of their processes, including their plans to integrate it with Skubana, in May of 2020 LastObject signed on with Floship.

Floship set LastObject up with their Hong Kong warehouse, ensuring easy shipping to both Asian and Australian customers.

“They work fast, and we never hear from customers that they’ve gotten anything wrong. They have a high level of accuracy.”

Christian Holse, COO of LastObject

To save LastObject’s customers the burden of fully paying for duties on international orders, Floship helped LastObject prepay for customs clearance. Because Floship’s employees are experts in international shipping, they knew the most efficient and cost-effective ways to ship products all around the world.

“It’s a jungle of legislation,

but Floship does a great job of handling everything for you.”

Christian Holse, COO of LastObject

Floship worked hard to achieve LastObject’s goal of packaging all orders without plastic. They helped LastObject source the correct packaging and ensure they were supporting LastObject’s mission of environmental sustainability.

“Their team is very dedicated and always available. You never have to go through cumbersome support tickets. Our dedicated account manager answers fast. If you really need advice or to speak to someone, they’re there.”

- Christian Holse, COO of LastObject

As far as integration with Skubana, Floship worked to ensure the process was as smooth as possible. When issues arose, Floship’s developers were ready to fix it quickly, giving the LastObject team more time to do what they do best.

Meanwhile, Skubana allowed LastObject to connect with multiple 3PLs to serve their global clientele. This helped them to manage their wholesale business and DTC orders, unifying data within one platform. And because Skubana keeps all of their data in one platform, LastObject can easily identify their best customers and areas with the highest order volume, helping them to grow strategically. Skubana also provides them with inventory alerts to ensure that when an item is low in the warehouse, LastObject can have it replenished in time without over-ordering.

With Floship’s support, LastObject was able to ship as many as 500 orders per month to over 20 countries. LastObject is constantly expanding the countries they deliver to, leaning on Floship for help navigating the unique customs issues that arise with each new location.

“They are a reliable fulfillment service. They get the job done with no headaches. That’s exactly what we were looking for.”

- Christian Holse, COO of LastObject

Floship’s easy integration with Skubana allows LastObject to manage their entire sales process from pricing to shipping all under one platform. Since integrating with Skubana, LastObject’s sales have grown by 239%. They have sold over 33,000 plastic-free personal care items and added 7 sales channels, including Amazon and eBay. Because of Skubana’s direct integration with Amazon, they could start selling on the platform ahead of Prime Day, resulting in an 80% increase over normal sales.

“We might only be using 10% of Skubana’s full capabilities. If you want a program that can handle nearly every part of your supply chain, go with Skubana.”

Christian Holse, COO of LastObject

LastObject continues to use Floship and Skubana to manage their eCommerce operations.
