How Tushy Delivered 100,000+ Orders During Covid-19 With Floship
When Covid-19 began impacting the United States with much of the country ground to a halt, it was anyone’s guess that toiletry supplies would experience a spike in demand.
By and large, this has been the case for toiletry company Tushy, when the company reported that two months’ of bidets stock had sold out in just a weeks’ time.
Despite achieving an eight-digit revenue growth, the surge of over 100,000 orders worldwide in Q1 2020 coupled with pandemic-caused logistical halt posed Tushy a challenge faced by all DTCs last year–ensuring that the manufacturing supply met the consumer demand while just as importantly, finding a way to get the goods from the source of manufacturing to the consumers’ hands.
When shipment fulfillment platform Floship took over the reigns of Tushy’s order fulfillment, it was abundantly clear that a revision of their supply chain was necessary and urgent–streamlining the flow of inventory between the manufacturer, the fulfillment centre, and the end consumer.
Tushy needed a team—or a “partner,” as COO and Co-Founder Justin Allen described—that was hands-on and readily available to face the challenge using a combination of Tushy’s technology-driven platform, strong account management and expansive global network.

SOLUTION
Tushy had initially planned to work with Hongkong Post. The problem, however, was that HK Post leveraged other commercial carriers for shipments. When the pandemic struck, they were not immune to passenger aircraft groundings, hence a reduction of cargo space.
Floship revised Tushy’s last-mile strategy by using Fedex, and proceeded to negotiate with the worldwide transportation company on a solution that was quick to implement, providing end-to-end transparency on the fulfillment process while maximizing savings.
However, FedEx was unable to take all of Tushy’s inventory in bulk, sometimes fulfilling only a tenth of what Tushy needed for its customers in the United States.
For several weeks, Floship’s dedicated account manager worked tirelessly with FedEx on Tushy’s behalf. By securing marginally more space on each and every flight, Tushy was eventually able to get all of its inventory shipped.
For troubleshooting-related matters, Floship went as far as assigning a developer to address Tushy’s concern in real time by utilizing business communication platform Slack, thereby giving them direct access to a team of logistics experts that understood their clients’ biggest pain points and provided real-time updates as the carrier’s situation fluctuated on a daily basis.
SUCCESS
Strategically, Floship provided a supply chain solution that focused on fulfillment from Hong Kong. In doing so, this helped solve four problems for Tushy:
1. Tushy was able to save on the punitive import tariffs imposed by the United States during the US-China Trade War.
2. Provided storage & order management from Floship’s 5 Fulfillment Centres across Hong Kong.
To ensure on time customer delivery by upgrading Tushy’s shipping option from ocean freight to express courier.
3. To balance consumer demand and shipping times, Tushy synergized a JIT manufacturing process and express last-mile delivery, cutting down the upfront inventory cost and maintaining delivery SLAs with customers.
A year into the pandemic, Floship remains supportive of Tushy’s mission, handling their international shipments to Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and many more; also acting as an overflow facility for the company’s inventory that are already in the United States.
It is also far from just Hong Kong where Floship has been able to provide temporary storage (through its network of fulfillment centers). Over the past few years, Floship’s service network has grown to include 3 continents, shipping to 180 countries through partnerships with more than 30 carriers worldwide.
